iPhone / iMessage guide

A practical message design guide

Create an iMessage mockup that feels intentional.

A convincing text-message mockup is less about copying every pixel and more about making the conversation, spacing, and device details agree with one another.

Start with the conversation

Write the exchange before styling the screen. A short conversation with a clear purpose usually reads better than a long transcript. Keep each bubble focused on one thought and vary message length so the result does not look mechanically generated.

Use names, timestamps, and message content that belong to the same scenario. For a storyboard, make the action obvious. For a product mockup, keep the copy concise enough to scan at presentation size.

Choose the right message direction

Sent messages represent the device owner. Received messages belong to the contact shown at the top of the screen. Check the direction after every edit, especially when you rewrite both sides of a conversation.

  • Use sent for the person holding the phone.
  • Use received for the contact or service replying.
  • Alternate only when the conversation naturally calls for it.

Make device details consistent

The time, contact name, status icons, and conversation copy should support the same moment. If the conversation says “good morning,” a late-night device time will feel wrong even when the visual styling is accurate.

Use the 24-hour option when the audience or setting expects it. Keep the contact label short enough to fit the header, and avoid adding more detail than the screenshot needs.

Export a clean image

Review the full preview before downloading. Look for clipped bubbles, accidental line breaks, inconsistent punctuation, and empty messages. The exported PNG is designed for presentations, storyboards, thumbnails, and social content.

For best results, place the image on a background with enough contrast around the phone frame. Do not enlarge a small screenshot after export; download the high-resolution version directly from the generator.

Common questions

Does the generator add a watermark?

No. The current message generator exports a clean PNG without a watermark.

Can I use the image in commercial work?

You can use the mockup in design, education, storytelling, and presentation work. Do not use generated conversations to impersonate a real person, fabricate evidence, or mislead an audience.
