Message design
How to make chat mockups readable in video
A practical system for writing, framing, and exporting message screens that stay clear on moving timelines.
Start from the viewing size
Design the conversation for the size it will occupy in the final edit. A phone that fills a vertical frame can support more detail than a small message insert inside a landscape video.
Write the essential exchange first. Remove greetings, repeated confirmations, and background detail that the audience cannot read before the scene changes.
Build a clear conversation rhythm
Alternate bubble lengths instead of making every message the same width. Keep the most important line short, and give it enough space before the next response.
- Use one idea per bubble.
- Keep names and timestamps secondary.
- Let the final message resolve the scene.
Export before editing
Download the high-resolution PNG from the generator and scale it down in the video editor. This keeps bubble edges and small text sharper than enlarging a low-resolution screenshot.
Use mockups responsibly
Use fictional names and content unless you have permission to show a real exchange. A mockup should support storytelling or design work, not be presented as evidence of a real conversation.
